George Barrera

Adherence and Supervision Coordinator

George earned a bachelor’s degree in health sciences and an undergraduate certificate in family health in 2007 from Trident University, a master’s degree in human anatomy and physiology instruction in 2015 from New York Chiropractic College, and is currently working towards a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University. Prior to joining MAPS Public Benefit Corporation (MAPS PBC), George worked in higher education, teaching human anatomy and physiology, and as a faculty member and program director in surgical technology.

At MAPS PBC, George is currently serving as Adherence and Supervision Coordinator, supporting adherence rating and supervision of MAPS-sponsored clinical trials through development and maintenance of data systems that monitor and coordinate adherence rating and supervision of therapist working in MAPS-sponsored clinical trials. He is passionate about helping others. For several years he worked in the surgical setting as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) and Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), specializing in pediatric and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery. More recently his educational pursuit has led him toward the field of marriage and family therapy, where he is hoping to continue helping others in an a different but just as impactful way.

George joined MAPS PBC in order to be part of a team whose interests lie in the betterment of mental health for others. He believes that there are potentially better mental health options, such as MDMA-assisted therapy, that could be available to those suffering from mental health issues, such as PTSD, and that MAPS PBC is doing important work to reopen those doors for the future.

In George’s free time, he enjoys reading, playing chess, and most of all cooking for his family.
